Charles William Goddard was an American story and play writer. He was born on November 26, 1879 in Portland, Maine. It is regarded as one of the largest cities in the U.S. state of Maine. He was married to Ruth Dickey. She was born on 26 December 1911 and died on 11 January 1951. She was the sister of brothers Basil Dickey and Paul Dickey. Goddard started began writing Broadway plays and got much recognition from the audiences. Later he started writing for films. He wrote the screenplay for the Pathé Frres film The Exploits of Elaine, which is considered as his one of the best works. For preservation in the United States National Film Registry the film got selected. He died on January 11, 1951 and is interred in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Maine.
