Laurence Sterne (1713-1768) was an Irish-born English writer and clergyman known for his novel "The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman." He was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, and had a nomadic childhood due to his father's military assignments. Sterne studied at Cambridge University and became a clergyman. Sterne's literary career began with sermons and essays, but his most famous work, "Tristram Shandy," brought him recognition.
