Gustave Droz

Having learned how to be an artist, Gustave Droz first showed his work in public in Paris at the Salon of 1857. The author had an instant and huge success with a collection of short stories called Monsieur, Madame et Bébé (1866), which were first published in the magazine La Vie Parisienne and then turned into a book. Following this, there were some psychological novels: Le Cahier Bleu de Mlle Cibot (1868); Autour d'une Source (1869); Un Paquet de Lettres (1870); Babolain (1872); Les Étangs (1875); Une Femme Gênante (1875); and L'Enfant (1885). In 1884, he wrote Tristesses et Sourires, a sensitive look at the good and bad parts of family life. Papa, Mamma, and Baby (1887) was the name of Droz's first book that in English.
