There was only one president of the French Second Republic, and that was Louis Napoleon. He was chosen in 1848. It was against the law for him to be re-elected, so he took power by force in 1851. Later, he declared himself Emperor of France and started the Second Empire. He ruled until the French Army lost and Prussia and its allies captured him at the Battle of Sedan in 1870. Charles-Louis Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Paris on the night of April 19–20, 1808. He became Louis Napoleon and then Napoleon III. Louis Bonaparte was his father. Napoleon Bonaparte made Louis king of Holland from 1806 to 1810. However, Louis died in 1810.
