Over her lifetime, she achieved remarkable success, with total book sales reaching 2 million copies, second only to Harriet Beecher Stowe. Her works were particularly popular for their emotional depth and exploration of domestic life. Holmes was married to Daniel Holmes from 1849 until her death in 1907. She passed away on October 6, 1907, in Brockport, New York, at the age of 82. Raised by her parents, Fanny Olds and Preston Hawes, Holmes went on to become one of the most successful and beloved writers of her time, leaving behind a legacy of emotionally charged stories that resonated with readers across generations. Her works continue to be remembered for their significant impact on 19th-century American literature.
