The couple had purchased The Wayside, a country house that became a center for literary activity, with Harriett playing a key role in making it a hub for writers and intellectuals. She was deeply involved in promoting literature and publishing works after her husband's death. Harriett Lothrop’s life was centered around writing and supporting the literary world, and she was a dedicated mother to her daughter, Margaret Lothrop, born around 1883. Harriett passed away on August 2, 1924, in San Francisco, California. She was the daughter of Sidney Mason Stone and Harriett Mulford.
