Born on December 8, 1832, in Trumpington, Cambridge, he developed a passion for storytelling early in life. Henty's career was diverse; he served as a war correspondent during the Crimean War and later in South Africa, which significantly influenced his writing. His experiences in these regions provided the foundation for many of his novels, where he vividly depicted historical events and the bravery of his characters. Henty’s best-known works include The Dragon & The Raven, For The Temple, Under Drake's Flag, and In Freedom's Cause. His novels often revolve around young protagonists who demonstrate courage, perseverance, and a sense of honor in the face of adversity. Henty was married to Elizabeth Funicane, with whom he had a family. He died on November 16, 1902, at the age of 69 in Weymouth, England.
